Filament Winding Process

Filament winding method involves a continuous filament of reforcing material wound onto a rotating mandrel in layers at different layers. If a liquid thermosetting resin is applied on the filament prior to winding the, process is called wet filament winding.

Precision

Precision high-speed positioning of continuous fibre in a pre-determined pattern is the basis of the filament winding process.

Mandrel

There is a mandrel that the fibre and resin wound upon, is cured in room temp or in a oven. After cure the mandrel is extracted leaving a hollow composite structure.

Tension

Fibre tension is critical to the operation of a filament winding machine, tension required depends on the type of fibre, the part diameter or the winding pattern.
